Once I had done this, I felt a vague sense of unease I hadn't even been aware of, pass. The whole place looks a lot better for just having been given the once over. It was a timely reminder that however well you declutter in the first place, and however pleased you are with yourself afterwards, it's always worth just opening up that little-used drawer, or looking under the bed - that stuff creeps back all the time!
If I can't find something, the first thing I do is start tidying. It ALWAYS turns up more quickly than if you just looked for it. So then you've found your item - and you've tidied - Hooray!
Just to end with, a little tip for reminding yourself to give things back that you've borrowed. I have a drawer that I keep specifically for things that I've borrowed, or that I have to give to people. Every time I set out to visit someone, or I have visitors, I quickly check the drawer. This has saved me several wasted trips, 'argh' moments and things hanging around for too long, making the place look untidy.
